Solving challenging problems to improve the environment and our communities is our mission at Anchor QEA, and one that goes hand in hand with providing solutions for the expansive impacts of climate change—from the coastal zones of our oceans and Great Lakes to our riverine environments and all across the landscape.
Climate change is causing daily and long-term impacts on our lives, environment, and infrastructure. From rising sea levels, storm surge, and precipitation variability, to increasing heat, drought, and storms, Anchor QEA has the climate-focused services and experience to help our partners accomplish critical resilience objectives. Providing climate resilience solutions can be done in two ways: Climate Adaptation, which focuses on managing the effects of climate change either created or projected; and Climate Mitigation, which seeks to reduce the effects of climate change by minimizing greenhouse gas emissions through sustainability practices and energy-use reduction. The Anchor QEA team is well versed in both areas as indicated by our service offerings and our project examples.
With more than 500 team members in 25 offices across the country, Anchor QEA believes a multidisciplinary approach and partnership mentality are essential to solving the multifaceted environmental challenges facing organizations and communities today. Anchor QEA brings together deep subject matter expertise across a full range of engineering, environmental sciences, planning and restoration, and analytics services to take on our clients’ most complex needs.
Whether managing an entire program from inception to completion, or stepping in at critical stages of a process, every project begins by first assembling the best possible team. We reach across technical disciplines and geography to gather the right expertise to deliver project success.

Support Services
Anchor QEA is working with the Maryland Port Administration to update its climate resilience plan for port infrastructure funded through a FEMA BRIC grant, which was applied for and won by the Anchor QEA team.
Anchor QEA is supporting the Engineer Research and Development Center (ERDC), Engineering with Nature program by providing nature-based expertise in collaborating with USACE districts along multiple coasts to advance techniques for coastal storm reduction and flood risk management for climate and coastal resilience.
Anchor QEA managed greenhouse gas emissions inventory for the Town of Brighton’s Climate Plan. This included a full assessment of town operations to accurately categorize the emissions, trends over time, and future solutions.
As part of a National Fish and Wildlife Foundation grant-funded project for Audubon, Save the Sound, and New York State Office of Parks, Recreation, and Historic Preservation to restore this 400-acre tidal marsh, Anchor QEA evaluated and provided design solutions for coastal resiliency in response to projected sea level rise and other climate impacts.
Anchor QEA is supporting Dredging Operations and Environmental Research (DOER) with USACE ERDC and USACE Headquarters to identify and address barriers to beneficial use of dredged material and implementation of Nature Based Solutions for enterprise-wide implementation. The project goal is a toolkit of resources for achieving the 70/30 beneficial use of dredged sediment goal.
Anchor QEA managed the Climate Ready Assessment for the Peconic Estuary and the adjacent tribal lands of the Shinnecock Indian Nation, which included evaluation of inundation levels and marsh migration patterns for several sea level rise scenarios.
The Anchor QEA team provided climate resilient design adaptation for the existing terminal, including modified harbor facilities in order to address compound flooding, public access, and habitat restoration, as well as the deepening and widening of the ship channel.
Working with the Mississippi State Port Authority, Anchor QEA provided design to expand the beneficial use of dredged material at this island to increase coastal resiliency and add habitat benefits.
Anchor QEA conducted a hazard analysis and adaptation planning for the University of California, Irvine, in support of renovations to the university’s rowing center. This included identification of future hazards based upon predicted sea level rise, storm surge, and wave runup modeling.
The Anchor QEA team assisted the City with long-term planning for coastal resilience, which included planning for the beneficial use of dredged sediment for wetland restoration to help protect coastal infrastructure.
Anchor QEA conducted a sea level rise vulnerability assessment using a multicriteria evaluation approach. The results will be used to develop a comprehensive Adaptation and Resiliency Plan for this lowlying coastal community.
Anchor QEA, along with our partners, conducted a climate change vulnerability assessment to identify and prioritize alternatives for increasing coastal resilience in this heavily developed coastal area. The work included a full risk analysis and preliminary costing.
Anchor QEA provides a one-stop resource for climate and coastal resilience. Predicted climate change issues are pressuring leaders to make difficult decisions for an uncertain future. Having a team with the depth of knowledge to plan, design, and implement resilient solutions as your partner can help navigate these challenges. The Anchor QEA team strives to deliver on projects that address and provide lasting benefits for climate and coastal resilience, encompassing the many facets of climate change mitigation within each solution.
